About

Behind every gestational diabetes diagnosis is a woman trying her best in a sea of new information. Support isn’t always as accessible or as timely as you’d hope, and many of us end up piecing things together ourselves, hoping we’re on the right track.

Gestie is for the mum-to-be who:

  • just got diagnosed and feels completely unprepared
  • wants clear explanations without the overwhelm
  • keeps hearing “your numbers are high” without the context she needs
  • is doing everything right but still feels like she’s falling behind
  • wishes someone would slow things down and talk to her like a human
  • craves reassurance, community, and a little emotional space to breathe

Celia's story

As a first-time mum, Celia expected plenty of new experiences - just not quite the number of twists her pregnancy delivered. Even with older sisters who’d had gestational diabetes, her own diagnosis still came as a shock.

Her numbers were borderline at first, which made her question whether all the finger-pricking, carb tracking, extra appointments, and late-night exercise sessions were really necessary. But as the weeks passed, her baby kept measuring large and her fasting numbers crept up. Metformin did nothing, but insulin finally helped. And right when she felt like she had things under control, induction was recommended. She gave it her best shot (for almost two days!) but as one of the unlucky few it doesn’t work for, she ultimately chose to welcome her baby girl via c-section.

Medically, she'd had all the right support. But emotionally, she often felt like she was scrambling to keep up - new routines, new rules, new worries, all layered on top of pregnancy brain and first-time-mum nerves. It was through hearing other GDM mums share their stories that Celia realised how many women were quietly carrying the same worries and overwhelm.

With the knowledge that gestational diabetes could be part of her future pregnancies, she committed to understanding it more deeply - learning how the body responds during pregnancy and why the numbers behave the way they do. What had once felt confusing and confronting became clearer, and with that clarity came a greater sense of confidence.

She couldn’t help but think about how different her own experience might have felt if someone had gently guided her toward the right resources, or taken the time to walk alongside her in those early weeks. Gestie grew from that reflection - a place to support the emotional weight of gestational diabetes, make the journey feel less overwhelming, and remind women they’re not navigating it alone.
